Lynda Peterson was born in South Africa and lived there until the age of 8 when her family immigrated to Canada. At the age of 9 the family settled in Vancouver, BC where she finished school and attended the University of British Columbia to attain a Bachelor of Education. In 1985 she married her long time boyfriend Ross and they moved to Whitehorse, Yukon where they developed their teaching careers and built a life together. Lynda owned and operated a family daycare while their son and daughter were young and has taught everything from Kindergarten through grade 12 specializing in career education.

Having battled Anorexia in her late teens and early twenties, and having gone through 2 difficult pregnancies resulting in 2 premature births, when cancer struck Lynda was no stranger to the need for digging deep and finding inner courage, strength and determination.

In November of 2006 she was diagnosed with grade 3 stage 3 Follicular Lymphoma, an incurable form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She completed 6 rounds of full chemotherapy followed by 8 rounds of maintenance chemotherapy, once every 3 months for a period of 2 years. After this treatment protocol she was declared to be in partial remission and a year later, with the exception of 2 stubborn nodes behind the chest wall, she was in complete remission.

Just 5 months later, in November of 2009, a new node was found deep in her neck. Given it’s location it could not be biopsied but a swelling in her neck in December of that year started the journey once again. The swelling turned into a lump which was biopsied in February of 2010 and proved to be Diffused Large B Cell Lymphoma, a faster growing cousin of the original cancer, which resulted in 3 more rounds of chemotherapy and an autologous bone-marrow transplant in June of 2010. Today Lynda is in remission. She is passionate about the outdoors and loves to go hiking, canoeing and traveling. In 2002 the family embarked on a 6-month trip around the world and in 2009 Lynda hiked the Grand Canyon with her father. Whether it’s backpacking around the globe, camping by a lake, curling up with a good book, or volunteering her time she finds enjoyment and fulfillment in everything she does. Lynda and her husband still live in Whitehorse with their dog Angel.
